Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I wanted to share some unique ideas to give you inspiration and some ideas of what to get your mother, grandmother, or mother-figure in your life. I love giving gifts and spending time picking out the perfect gift for the people in my life. I like things that are personalized and unique and something that the gift recipient wouldn’t necessarily pick out for themselves but hopefully still loves.
My go-to for finding gifts recently has been Etsy. If you haven’t heard of Etsy before it’s basically a huge online boutique or almost like a market with tons of different handmade items from all over the world. I’ve purchased through tons of different sellers from Etsy before in the past, but just more recently, I’ve been finding so many gifts for the people in my life on Etsy. I just love how you can find the most unique, thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts there. So for this gift guide, I have a combination of gifts from Etsy but also other DIY options that you can put together yourself to make amazing gifts for your mom.
Jewelry
I’ve seen a lot of birthstone-type jewelry popping up on Etsy and in a lot of retail stores as well. I think that this is a great gift to pitch in money with your siblings and get it for your mom. It’s a nice way for your mom to be reminded of her children every time she wears it and they’re also super beautiful as well.
There’s a lot of birthstone style jewelry, especially when it’s around Mother’s Day so it shouldn’t be hard to find. You can definitely find birthstone jewelry in retail stores at your local shopping mall, but I’ve found some really beautiful pieces on Etsy that are not only more unique and customizable, but also a lot more inexpensive than picking up something comparable at your local jewelry stores.
I really love the style of these teardrop style birthstone necklaces from the Etsy shop GeoMinimalist. They’re definitely beautiful, but I also love how you can customize the number of birthstones to include all your siblings and also have the option to add initials to the necklace as well, which I think is a nice touch! I love the simplicity of the design and I think that it’s definitely something any mother would love.
Gift Boxes
Gift boxes are one of my all-time favorite gifts to give and what better time than Mother’s Day to put together a gift box! If you’re looking to create a gift box, you should definitely check out my blog post that I recently posted on how to create a DIY Housewarming Gift Box. In that post, I show you step-by-step what I like to include in every gift box and how to easily customize and assemble a gift box of your own!
If you feel a little overwhelmed putting together your own gift box, there are tons of beautiful pre-made gift boxes on Etsy, which I love. One shop, in particular, LittleFlowerSoapCo has beautiful gift boxes that I instantly fell in love with. They have gift boxes for every occasion from bridesmaids gifts, to birthdays, and of course Mother’s Day.
This gift box is the perfect gift for any mother with including tons of spa-themed goodies in beautiful, clean packaging. It’s a gift that anyone would be happy to receive. This particular box includes a lavender lemongrass soap, lavender essential oil lip balm, bath salts, bath bomb, and a beautiful lavender soy candle with a Mother’s Day message on it. The whole gift is then wrapped in this beautiful white box with white ribbon and a personalized card is also available.
I love gift boxes like these because you have a beautiful gift all put together and ready, but it still seems more personalized than if you were just to pick it up at a retail store.
Plants
Along with gift boxes, plants are another one of my favorite gifts to give. After receiving a dwarf lemon tree for my birthday last year, I seemed to develop a green thumb and I’m obsessed with plants for gifts. I think there’s something so cool about giving a newly married couple a tree that they can watch grow as their relationship grows or receiving a lemon tree where it not only looks pretty and brings so much life and positive energy into the space, but also provides fruit that you can eat as well.
Flowers are of course a popular item to pick up on Mother’s Day. I’m a sucker for flowers and in my book, you can’t go wrong with them. That being said, a potted plant that can last for years, I think is a lot more special and something that your mother can look at every day and think of you.
I came across this Etsy shop that does these really cool “Mystery Blooms.” It’s something that’s really unique and such a cool idea to give for a gift. Grab a beautiful plant pot and pick up these Mystery Bloom Seeds from the Etsy store MysteryBlooms and you have an awesome, creative, Mother’s Day gift.
Sibling Photos
I don’t know any mother that doesn’t love photos of their children. If you don’t have the means to spend a lot of money on a Mother’s Day present, getting together with all your siblings and getting some nice photos taken and framed for your mother would be a great gift! You can get your photos professionally taken in a studio, or you can simply just find someone with a DSLR camera, snap some photos and pick up a beautiful frame at TJ Maxx. It would be such a nice, thoughtful gift without spending much money at all.
A ‘Mother’s Day’ Day
Experiences are also one of my favorite gifts to give. I think that spending the day with the person will mean more than probably any physical gift ever would. If you live close to your mother, planning out a Mother’s Day brunch, a mani-pedi, a cooking class, or a wine tour with your mother is something that I’m sure she’d absolutely love and definitely cherish spending that time with you.
I love finding experiences on sites like Red Balloon for here in Australia, but also Groupon is a very popular place to find different experiences. You can also just search in your local area like “Wine Tours in _____” to find experiences you can book for Mother’s Day.
I hope you enjoyed this Unique Mother’s Day Gift Guide and found some inspiration for what to give your mother or mother-like figures in your life. What’s the best gift you’ve given or received? Let me know in the comments down below!
