Kickstart Motivation- Ways to Get Yourself Motivated

Kickstart Motivation

As you can see from the title – this blog post is about Kickstarting Your Motivation. The reason I’m naming it this is because I’m going to start a section on my blog with different tips and tricks when it comes to motivation and motivating yourself to be the best you can be. I’ve touched base on motivation a little bit here on my blog before, but now I’m really excited to dive in deeper to the motivational subject.

Over the past year, or let’s be real, my whole life- I’ve dealt with struggling to be motivated in just about any aspect of my life. However, I know that I’m also not alone when it comes to this. Especially in the past year, after graduating from college, getting out of my usual routine, I definitely struggled with feeling lost and really not motivated to do much.

I thought that before when I was in college, I was thriving with good grades, a great internship, a job that I was making good money, being involved on campus, and a large group of friends-to just not having any of that. Granted now I’m living in Australia with my boyfriend and our two cats, so although I feel like I really can’t complain- I still have felt lost and unsure about what I want to do.

Talking with some of my friends who also just graduated from college- I know that I’m not alone– and if you’re feeling this way too, know you’re definitely not alone. After talking to my friends and finding out a lot of them felt the same way, I felt like something like this series on my blog could be super helpful a lot of people and something that I would have liked to read while I was going through my unmotivated time.

This first post is how to kickstart your motivation. This post is perfect for if you’re feeling in a rut and want to get out but don’t know where to start. I’m going to walk you through the steps that I took to get out of my rut, feel like I’m slowly getting my life together, and overall getting things done.

Truly getting out of a rut or truly getting motivated in life will take a bit of time, but I’m sure that if you follow these tips below, it will definitely kickstart your motivation and start you on the right track.

Have a Routine

This was the most important step for me in getting motivated which is why I’m including it first. One of the things that I was lacking after graduating is not having a routine. I’m someone who THRIVES when I have a routine- this doesn’t simply mean doing the same thing every day, but what I mean by having a routine is going to bed around the same time every day, waking up around the same time every day, working out etc. When I set a schedule or had something “going on,” I felt busy, which was nice and kept me going.

If I don’t have any routine at all, chances are I’ll be staying in bed until early afternoon, lounging in my PJs, not accomplishing anything, and feeling really lazy and unmotivated. Trust me, this is exactly how I was day-to-day when I didn’t have my routine and chances are you might be like that too without one.

Make Your Bed

I’m sure you’ve heard it before- but making your bed first thing in the morning is seriously life-changing, especially when it comes to motivation. I find that when I make my bed in the morning I, one feel more accomplished, but two, am less likely to jump back into bed and do nothing. When you make your bed first thing in the morning it starts your day off on the right track. It’s something so simple but can really make a huge difference. Especially when starting to get out of an unmotivational rut, baby steps is key and starting out small will eventually make huge differences altogether.

Drink Water

The idea of drinking water to kickstart your motivation may seem a little strange, but trust me, this will really help. I like to keep 3, one-liter bottles of water in my fridge at all times. This way I’m able to grab them throughout the day and drink them. However, right when I wake up in the morning I start drinking water and typically finish the liter of water before my breakfast. Water is obviously so amazing for you for so many different reasons, but why it’s important for motivation is because when you feel good on the inside- energized, awake, not hungry etc. you’re able to accomplish more throughout the day. So trust me, drink a lot of water as soon as you wake up and keep it up throughout the day.

Tidy Up Your Space

Along with making your bed, decluttering your space will also declutter your mind. When your space is clean, you’re able to relax more and really think and focus on the things you want to accomplish. If I’m surrounded by a mess- my life is going to feel like a mess. That’s just how it is. If your place is currently a disaster, I would start small. Clean up the area so it looks presentable overall. Don’t go into every small drawer and do a deep clean just yet. Just do a surface clean initially and organize your space later on. If you overwhelm yourself with a daunting task of going through everything and doing a deep clean, you’re going to get overwhelmed and lose motivation when it comes to cleaning. Start small and baby steps are key.

Those are my tips on how to kickstart your motivation.
