Growing Your Travel Blog in 2021

How to Grow Your Travel Blog
2020 is a weird year.

With millions of people stuck at home looking for things to do, advice, and inspiration, when it comes to the blogging world, in 2020, a lot of blogs are flourishing and gaining new followers every day.

All except for one niche – travel blogs.

Growing your travel blog in 2020 may seem nearly impossible. After all, with everything going on in the world right now, traveling is not an option for most people, especially international travel. That being said, there are still things that you can do to increase your blog traffic and grow your travel blog in 2020.

Below, I’ve included a few tips when it comes to growing your platform so that when the world starts going back to “normal” you can pick up right where you left off, but with a larger audience.

Continue Posting Content

It may seem really discouraging to continue your travel blog when your traffic has taken a shot. A lot of people aren’t able to travel now so it’s understandable why your traffic hasn’t been the same. I know at the beginning of this year, I personally felt a lack of motivation to continue posting, but if you have long-term goals of growing your travel blog, it’s important to be consistent.

Continuing to post content is essential for blog growth regardless of your niche. The more high-quality content you post, the more likely new subscribers will find you and follow your blog. It’s important more than ever to plan your blog posts, keyword searches, and strategically plan your content to optimize SEO.

Tailor Your Content

As a blogger, it’s important to tailor your content to what’s relevant at the moment. What are people searching for? How can you help your audience?

International travel may be a thing of the past – at least for right now. If your blog focuses on international travel, you’ll probably have to switch things up for a little bit to stay relevant.

Especially being located in Australia, I’m focusing on travel guides and travel posts in locations close by like my recent trips to Orange and the Shoalhaven. Depending on what country you live in, exploring the area around you and continuing to post content will not only gain you a larger following but appeal to a much more niche area and target a great engaged audience.

Another way to grow your travel blog is by posting more travel tips and relatable posts on travel topics, not just travel guides.

Planning your dream trip out of quarantine, staycations, savings for your next trip, there are tons of topics that you can post about without physically traveling.

Share and Share Some More

Previously, when it came to posting on my travel blog, I would do my standard sharing of my new post on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. Now more than ever, it’s important to get your blog post out there if you want to continue growing your travel blog.

Press Releases

Especially with traveling domestically around Australia, I’ve been sending “press releases” to tourism boards in the area or anyone mentioned in my new blog post, letting them know that they were featured in the post and feel free to share it if they liked it.

A quick email can go along way and having multiple companies share my newest post, resulted in a lot of additional traffic and followers that were specifically interested in that topic already. It’s a fast and effective way to directly target the audience of that post.

Do Your Research

It’s important, especially in the influencer/blogger industry to constantly be staying up with the new technology and trends. I love seeing how other travel bloggers are growing their brands in 2020 and gaining some tips and inspiration from them as well.

Whether it’s how they’re changing their Twitter game or how they’re adapting their content to the lack of people traveling internationally this year, it’s always important to continue researching and learning regardless of your niche.
