Decorating your home can get really expensive, real fast. Decorating my space has definitely become a passion of mine since moving into my first (rented) home that’s completely mine and I’m able to decorate it however I want. Although going shopping and finding new items to add to your home can be really exciting and drastically change your space, what I’ve found throughout the year is that you can easily update and refresh your space with spending little to no money.
I’m a firm believer that our space reflects how we live. If my house is a disaster, you know my life is currently a disaster and vice versa, when it’s cleaned and organized, I feel like my life is put together. That’s why it’s so important for me to have a home that I feel comfortable and happy in. I hope you find some of these tips helpful when it comes to decorating your space for little to no money and are able to create a space that you feel comfortable and happy in!
Recycle Existing Décor
Do you have random knick-knacks or items around the house that you’re not sure where they should go? Try switching things up and shopping around your house to decorate your space. Switching out throw pillows, blankets, or vases are a great and really quick way to make your space feel new and updated, without spending any money at all.
Switch Up Your Artwork
Artwork is one of my favorite things to switch up and refresh my space. Artwork can get really expensive, but DIY artwork is essentially free! If you have Photoshop or other photo editing software, you can create some beautiful text artwork, however, if you’re not a graphic designer, using websites like Canva to create your own text artwork is great. You can find quote inspiration on Pinterest or Google.
Also, a lot of other bloggers have beautiful artwork that you can download and print yourself for free! By just searching Free Printables on Pinterest, you’re able to find so many great options that you can print out at home or at your local print shop! I recently found these beautiful herb prints and just simply printed them off of my home printed and framed them. They’re simple, but really added a lot to the space.
Updating any picture frames you have around the house with some newer photos or just switching up photos in general will instantly give your place a refreshed, updated, feeling without spending much money at all.
Rearrange Furniture
If your space is feeling a little bland and needing a switch up, take all the furniture out of your space and completely rearrange it! Create new areas in your room, take a cabinet that was in the bedroom and move it to the office, change the direction of your table. Switching up furniture not only from separate rooms, but just changing the layout of your space, will instantly make your space feel completely different with the same furniture you already owned.
DIY Décor
DIY or doing things yourself is a great way to refresh your home, update your space, and switch things up in your home on a very small budget. If you have items like paint, hooks, fabric etc. on hand already, you have so many possibilities for when it comes to DIY projects. Something that I’ve been loving doing is looking on Pinterest for DIY pallet projects. We’ve used pallets for a number of projects around the house, including a garden space and a fence for outside for our puppy. There’s a wide range of projects you can do with pallets, anything from coffee tables to bed frames.
Around our area or industrial areas in general, there’s a lot of pallets for free. If you’re looking for pallets or just some wood to DIY, looking in these areas or online for free pallets is a great option.
Another great option when it comes to DIYs is utilizing jars. I’ve talked about my love of jars on my blog multiple times now, but I seriously can’t get enough! You can easily pick up jars from discount stores, thrift stores, or just use some old jars that were once used for coffee or food. We keep almost all of our jars that our coffee comes in since they’re great to use to put candles in, use as a vase for flowers, or as storage around the house.
Thrifting
Thrifting is a great way to find some really amazing items on a budget. I posted on my Instagram story a great rug that we found at our local thrift store for only $15! However, if you’re looking to stick with a budget of $0.00, searching on the Facebook Marketplace for Free Items. This is a great way to up-cycle furniture and add to your space.
On the Facebook Marketplace we’ve found 4 wardrobes for our house, a desk, and our guest room bed frame- all for free! My tip is to just constantly be checking what’s new on the Marketplace, be quick when it comes to contacting, and just be patient. A lot of people have items that they no longer want and are simply more than happy having someone pick it up for free. This has definitely been a great resource for us furnishing our home on a budget!
