Sleep can impact our lives in a number of different ways.
From our mental health to our physical health, getting a proper night’s sleep is essential for our bodies and minds to function properly. I’ve talked about the importance of getting a good night’s sleep in several posts on my blog including preparing for a long international flight to starting a productive daily routine.
Studies show that lack of sleep can negatively affect your productivity, cognition, concentration, heart, and immune system and has been associated with weight gain and having less energy.
So needless to say, when my partner and I noticed that we were getting less than ideal sleep over the last few months, we knew that we had to do something about it and fast.

When it came to searching for a mattress, we knew that it needed to work for both my partner and me who, like most couples, have different sleep preferences.

After our order was placed, the Emma Original Mattress arrived soon after vacuum-sealed in a compact box. I was very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set up the mattress. I had my partner with me ready to go and help me set it up, but I could have easily done it myself.
At the top of the box, there’s an Emma boxcutter included that allows you to cut open the side of the box with ease. After that, simply just unwrap the vacuum-sealed plastic off and let your bed rise. I really liked that the only tool needed to set up our mattress was included with our mattress and conveniently located right as you opened the box, making the whole setup an extremely smooth process. 
Although we let our mattress rise overnight, the Emma Sleep website states that you only need 20 minutes or so for the mattress to breathe and fully rise. This makes Emma great if you’re moving into a new space and need a bed immediately. With the ease of the setup process, it’s perfect for anyone, even if you’re living alone. Since the mattress is chemical-free, there are no strange odors associated with the mattress which is ideal for sleeping on your first night after unboxing as well.
Our previous mattress was a queen size, but we opted to order a king size mattress this time around. Not only did we want a little bit more space, but our fur-children practically beg us every night to sleep in bed with us, so a king size mattress is perfect for all four of us to sleep comfortably.
Harley and Freyja may, actually, be more thrilled about our new mattress than we are!
Once we got our mattress set up on our bedframe, my partner mentioned that we need to purchase a new mattress protector. With sleeping on our new mattress for a couple of weeks, I can definitely say we’re all getting a much better night’s sleep with our Emma Original Mattress.
At first, I thought that the mattress was a little firmer than what I would normally look for in a mattress. However, as time has gone on and our bodies have adjusted to our new mattress, we’ve found that the mattress is the perfect firm consistency and, with the larger king-size, we can happily spread out and all get uninterrupted sleep. With different work schedules, we tend to wake up and go to bed at different times and, with the Emma, we haven’t woken up each other at all. This has been especially great for me by allowing me to sleep in long after my partner gets up for work.
I’ve also noticed some other improvements since getting our new Emma mattress such as my back not hurting as much. I originally thought that my aching back was associated with sitting at my desk all day for work, but my work schedule hasn’t changed, only my mattress.
So, it looks like I have Emma Sleep to thank for that as well!
My partner has also been enthusiastic about our new mattress and loves the fact that he can happily sleep on his sides now, something that he wasn’t able to comfortably do with our last mattress.
