A coastal escape was just what we needed. Apollo Bay, nestled along the Great Ocean Road, is the perfect getaway spot. With its breathtaking scenery, charming town, and our delightful farm stay at Tiny Talulah, we knew this weekend would be one to remember.
Setting off from Melbourne on a Friday afternoon, the drive to Apollo Bay was smooth, taking just 2.5 hours. As we arrived, the town was blanketed in sea fog, adding a magical touch to our much-needed weekend retreat.
Where We Stayed: Tiny Talulah – Apollo Bay Tiny Stays
Tiny Talulah is a cosy and eco-friendly farm stay just a short drive from the Apollo Bay Town Centre. With modern amenities, including a plush bed, a spacious bathroom, and a BBQ-equipped kitchen, this tiny house is the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home.
On Saturday morning, we woke to the sight of alpacas grazing right outside our window—a serene start to the day. With coffee in hand, we set off for a tour of the property with Amy and Nigel, the owners of Apollo Bay Tiny Stays. Their passion for sustainable living and animal care was evident in every corner of their farm.
What We Did in Apollo Bay
Exploring the Apollo Bay Tiny Stays Farm
Our time on the farm was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip. Amy and Nigel’s property is home to a variety of animals, including Highland cows, alpacas, chickens, and even honey bees. The opportunity to feed the Highland cows, especially the adorable calves, was unforgettable. It’s an experience that brings you closer to nature and farm life in a way that’s truly special.
Scenic Drives and Local Attractions
Californian Redwood Forest: Located about 30-40 minutes from Apollo Bay, this forest is a must-see. Towering redwoods create a magical atmosphere, and the nearby hiking trails and waterfalls add to the natural beauty. It’s a great spot for a peaceful walk surrounded by nature.
Hopetoun Falls: Just a short drive from the Redwood Forest, Hopetoun Falls is another must-visit. The 20-minute walk down to the falls is worth it for the tranquil setting and stunning views of the cascading water.
Exploring Apollo Bay Town Centre
Just a minute’s drive from Tiny Talulah, the Apollo Bay Town Centre offers a charming mix of boutique shops and local eateries. We spent an afternoon strolling through the town, enjoying coffee from a local cafe, and visiting the Apollo Bay Foreshore Reserve. The laid-back vibe of the town makes it the perfect spot to relax and soak in the coastal atmosphere.
One food stop not to be missed is the Apollo Bay Bakery, home to the famous Great Ocean Road Scallop Pies. These pies are a must-try when visiting Apollo Bay! The pies were pretty good – but wasn’t necessarily what I expected when I thought of Scallop Pies.

Seafood at Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op
For dinner, we headed to the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op for a fresh seafood feast. The seafood platter for two included prawns, fish, scallops, and chips—delicious and fresh. The marina setting added to the dining experience, with ocean views providing the perfect backdrop for the evening.
