Living in Melbourne has many perks, but one of the best is how close we are to some of Victoria’s most beautiful and diverse regions. From wine country to coastal escapes, scenic snow-capped mountains to relaxing hot springs, there’s a weekend getaway for every mood and season.

Just over an hour’s drive from Melbourne, Anglesea offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. From beach walks along the scenic cliffs to watching kangaroos at the Anglesea Golf Club, it’s a haven for nature lovers. 3. Cosy Weekend Retreat in Nungurner: Gippsland’s Hidden Gem
If you’re after a peaceful escape in Gippsland, Nungurner is the place to be. Nestled between rolling hills and the beautiful Gippsland Lakes, this retreat offers bird-watching, kayaking, and even a visit to Raymond Island to spot koalas in the wild. 4. Great Ocean Road: The Classic Melbourne Road Trip
One of Australia’s most iconic drives, the Great Ocean Road is perfect for a scenic getaway. From the famous Twelve Apostles to charming coastal towns like Lorne and Apollo Bay, there’s no shortage of jaw-dropping views and exciting pit stops along the way. Whether it’s exploring waterfalls, hiking coastal tracks, or simply enjoying fish and chips by the beach, this is a trip everyone should experience at least once. 5. Lavandula Lavender Farm: A Mediterranean Escape in Victoria
For something a little different, head to Lavandula Lavender Farm, just a short drive from Melbourne. Surrounded by lavender fields, this is a perfect day trip for those seeking tranquility. 6. Bringalbit: Discover Rustic Charm in the Macedon Ranges
If you’re after a weekend full of history and rustic charm, Bringalbit in the Macedon Ranges is the perfect spot. We stayed at the Woolshed Hill House, a cozy accommodation surrounded by historic gardens, perfect for a peaceful getaway. Spend your days exploring the gardens, feeding the local farm animals, or venturing out to nearby wineries like Mount Towrong Vineyard and Hanging Rock Winery. 7. Yarra Valley: A Wine Lover’s Dream
Just an hour from Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is one of Victoria’s most famous wine regions. It’s the ideal destination for wine lovers and foodies alike, with vineyards, cellar doors, and gourmet restaurants scattered throughout the valley. This is one of our favorite places for a day trip or a girls’ getaway! We love exploring the local wineries and admiring the picturesque landscapes.
8. Mornington Peninsula: Beaches, Hot Springs, and Vineyards
Another favorite for Melburnians looking to get away from the city, the Mornington Peninsula offers a mix of relaxing beaches, scenic drives, and award-winning wineries. While we haven’t explored the hot springs yet, we’ve had some lovely day trips here and can’t wait to dive deeper into this beautiful region. Whether you want to indulge at the Peninsula Hot Springs or enjoy coastal hikes, it’s a great option for a quick escape from Melbourne.
9. Daylesford and Hepburn Springs
Known as Victoria’s spa country, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are perfect for those looking to relax and rejuvenate. This is a spot where I need to definitely return to but I’ve enjoyed exploring the area this year for a girl’s getaway, shopping for antiques, and exploring nearby wineries.
10. Phillip Island: Wildlife and Coastal Views
Famous for its wildlife, Phillip Island offers an array of activities for nature lovers. From the Penguin Parade at sunset to spotting koalas at the Koala Conservation Centre, it’s a great spot for families or anyone who enjoys being close to nature. We haven’t explored the entire island yet, but seeing the fairy penguins is an absolute must!
11. Lake Mountain Resort: Snowy Adventures Close to Melbourne
If you’re craving a snowy adventure in Australia, Lake Mountain Resort is one of the best places to visit for a quick winter escape. Just a two-hour drive from Melbourne, this alpine resort offers skiing, snowshoeing, and tobogganing, perfect for a family-friendly winter getaway. It’s also a great spot for bushwalking and mountain biking during the warmer months, making it an all-year-round destination for nature lovers.
12. Apollo Bay: A Perfect Coastal Escape on the Great Ocean Road
Apollo Bay is one of the hidden gems along the Great Ocean Road and the ideal spot for a coastal getaway. We stayed at Tiny Talulah, a cozy farm stay just minutes from town, and spent our days exploring the area, including the nearby Californian Redwood Forest, and Mariner’s Lookout, and indulging in seafood at the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op. Whether you’re feeding Highland cows at the farm or enjoying a scallop pie at Apollo Bay Bakery, there’s no shortage of unique experiences.
